LimbO Products doesn’t want you to let diabetes get in the way.

Diabetes is one of the most common long-term health problems in the UK, affecting around 3.3 million people. Don’t fret, though, LimbO Products is here to help!

The condition is characterised by an inability to control blood glucose levels, often leading to dangerously high levels of glucose in the blood. Although a serious health issue, diabetes can often go unnoticed and it is estimated that 590,000 people are suffering without knowing. This is due to some of the early symptoms of diabetes being very general. For this reason, it is important to know the symptoms of diabetes so that you can care for your and your family’s health.

Let’s try to make this simple… There are two types of diabetes (which I’m sure you all know). Type 1 diabetes, which is less common, has an early onset and is caused by little or no insulin being produced by the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone which allows the cells of the body to take in and use glucose for respiration and other important processes. If it helps, think of it like a lock and a key. The insulin is a key which unlocks the body’s cells to allow glucose in. So if there is little or no insulin, there are not enough keys so glucose is not going to be used properly. Consequently, type 1 diabetes can be treated with daily insulin injections. Also, type 1 diabetes can be controlled by eating healthily and regular exercise, which we should be trying our best to do anyway!

In contrast, type 2 diabetes means that the insulin produced is ineffective and/or there is a decrease in the amount of insulin produced. So either the locks are broken, don’t match the keys or there aren’t enough keys. This more common type of diabetes has a late onset and is the result of an unhealthy diet and a lack of physical activity. Unlike type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes is not usually treated with insulin. As well as lifestyle changes, type 2 diabetes patients may also require medication, sometimes including insulin.

In addition to some of the more minor symptoms of diabetes such as frequent urination and tiredness, there are also more serious complications. One of these complications is foot ulcers, swellings and infections caused by high blood glucose levels which affect circulation and sensation of the feet. We understand that this is a very unpleasant and uncomfortable issue for the individual and we want to stop diabetes getting in the way of your life.

One of the main products which provides help for diabetes sufferers who may have to wear leg bandages for months at a time is the half leg LimbO. The LimbO seals snugly about 8cm above the knee but is designed to prevent reduction of blood flow and is therefore safe for people with circulation problems. The purpose of the LimbO is to allow you to fully submerge your foot in water without discomfort. So instead of struggling with strip washes, feel free to have a relaxing bath or shower without the stress. Additionally if you are going on holiday the LimbO will allow you to have a gentle splash in a swimming pool – we don’t want you to miss out.

Although foot ulcers may seem like an inevitable daily hassle at the moment, the LimbO means this doesn’t have to hold you back anymore!
