Diabetic Foot Awareness Cycle Ride

There are 160 diabetes-related amputations per week across the UK, according to research by Diabetes UK. It is thought that as many as four out of five of those could be avoided with improved awareness and support.  Diabetic foot ulcers precede more than 80% of amputations in people with diabetes and these can be treated if dealt with early on.

At LimbO, we’re well aware of the importance of treating ulcers. That’s why we’re so pleased to be helping Diabetic Foot Amputation Awareness. A group of clinicians, including Mark Allatt of Dermasciences, are trying to help awareness of the condition by cycling the same number of miles as there are amputations. Yes, that’s right – 160 miles! It’s a shockingly high number, and the team want to improve awareness and hopefully reduce that number.

The ride is now in its fourth year and LimbO are proud to be sponsoring Mark and his team £500 towards their effort. The route will take the cyclists from Malvern in Worcestershire, towards the Shropshire Hills, past Shrewsbury and then back towards Malvern. It’s going to be a long ride, so they need all the support they can get!  The ride is taking place next month.
